Protect Your Health - Get All Your Shots!

More and more diseases are preventable by vaccines (immunizations). To protect your health, you must have had the vaccines before you are exposed to the bacteria or virus. You do not need to be an expert on immunizations, but you do need to ask the nurse or doctor to review a list of your immunizations at least once each year.

Babies will need about six doctor or clinic visits before they are 2 years old to be fully protected. After age two, a yearly review of immunizations is required for children as well as adults. Every vaccine is not necessary for every person, but the doctor or nurse shouldn’t mind explaining why. Never assume that you have had "all the shots."

Ask if you are fully vaccinated for these diseases:

Polio Tetanus
Chicken pox Whooping Cough
Measles Hepatitis A
Mumps Hepatitis B
German Measles Influenza
Hib Pneumonia
Diphtheria Meningococcal

Note: If you have your own list of immunizations and dates, it makes it easier to ask questions and it will help avoid problems with medical records if you move, they are misplaced, or you have been to more than one doctor or clinic.
